Registered Professional Forester
NCRM is seeking a full-time Registered Professional Forester to join our professional staff. The ideal candidate should have a successful track record of working independently on forestry projects, preparing reports, and providing professional advice to clients. The position responsibilities include project management, Timber Harvest Plan preparation and administration, resource assessment, and supervision of junior staff. Strong organizational skills as well as communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. A valid driver’s license is required. ATV experience is preferred.

Northern Spotted Owl Biologist
Northern spotted owl (NSO) surveyors are needed for conducting surveys throughout Mendocino and Sonoma Counties in Northwestern California. NCRM, Inc. invites applications for full-time seasonal positions conducting surveys for northern spotted owls (NSOs) in the beautiful coast ranges of Northwestern California. Pay is $25/hr - $29/hr depending on experience, special consideration will be given to individuals with spotted owl survey experience in addition to past/current certification with surveying for marbled murrelets.
Our office is located inland, in Ukiah. The work period is expected to last from mid-February to the end of August (with the possibility for extending to full-time, year-round work with benefits for the right person).
Most surveys will be conducted at night on lands owned by some of the nation's top forestland conservation organizations including: The Nature Conservancy, The Conservation Fund, Redwood Forest Foundation, Inc., and Save-The-Redwoods-League. Duties include conducting nocturnal surveys for NSOs using digital wildlife callers, conducting NSO reproductive status monitoring surveys and observing/recording color-band information of NSOs often alone in remote locations without access to communications infrastructure (cell phones, radios, and CBs), possibly assisting with capturing and banding, taking detailed notes, filling out data forms, entering survey data into tablets and various database programs on computers. Work duties will require hiking over steep and rugged terrain, orienteering with map & compass, and GPS units, working independently and as a member of a team while following detailed instructions and prioritizing workloads with varying and changing field conditions.
Successful applicants will have experience working with NSOs alone in remote areas often without immediate contact with fellow employees, operating and maintaining 4x4 vehicles and ATVs at night on rugged unimproved dirt roads in addition to operating chainsaws and a variety of other field equipment. Successful applicants will also have good computer skills, be able to work in harsh weather conditions, be physically fit and able to meet the rigorous demands of field work in steep, rugged terrain, able to adapt to a flexible day/night and nighttime work schedule, willing to work overtime, and occasionally on weekends and/or holidays. The applicant must have excellent communication skills (written and oral); able to accurately collect and record field data; and be able to work cooperatively with others, and capable of working independently with little daily supervision.
